Forex trading offers flexibility across multiple timeframes — from scalping (seconds to minutes), day trading (intraday), swing trading (days to weeks), to position trading (weeks to months). Returns in forex are driven by pip movements, leverage, and position size rather than company fundamentals. While leverage can amplify profits significantly, it equally magnifies losses, making disciplined risk management essential. Forex markets are highly responsive to macroeconomic events, central bank decisions, geopolitical developments, and economic data releases — all of which create continuous trading opportunities around the clock.

Forex is the most accessible financial market in the world, offering unmatched liquidity with over $7.5 trillion traded daily. You can profit in both rising and falling markets by going long (buying) or short (selling) any currency pair. Forex also provides the advantage of high leverage, tight spreads, low transaction costs, and round-the-clock market access. Whether you are a beginner looking for consistent small gains or a professional seeking large price movements, forex offers a trading style for every type of participant — making it the preferred market for millions of traders globally.

All forex trades involve two currencies — known as a currency pair. The first currency listed is the base currency and the second is the quote currency. Currency pairs are categorised into three groups:

• Major Pairs: The most traded pairs involving the US Dollar — e.g., EUR/USD, GBP/USD, USD/JPY. These offer the highest liquidity and tightest spreads.
• Minor Pairs: Pairs that do not include the USD but involve other major currencies — e.g., EUR/GBP, GBP/JPY, AUD/CAD.
• Exotic Pairs: One major currency paired with a currency from an emerging economy — e.g., USD/INR, EUR/TRY. These tend to have wider spreads and lower liquidity.

Leverage in forex allows you to control a large position with a relatively small amount of capital, known as margin. For example, with 1:100 leverage, a deposit of ₹10,000 allows you to control a position worth ₹10,00,000. While leverage can significantly amplify your profits, it equally amplifies potential losses. It is critical to use leverage responsibly and always trade with a stop-loss in place. Margin is the amount of funds required in your account to open and maintain a leveraged position — if your margin falls below the required level, a margin call may be triggered, automatically closing your trades.

A forex futures contract is a standardised agreement to buy or sell a specific currency pair at a predetermined exchange rate on a set future date. Unlike spot forex trading (which settles immediately), futures contracts are exchange-traded and widely used by institutions, corporations, and traders to hedge currency risk or speculate on future exchange rate movements. Forex futures are particularly useful for businesses with international exposure who want to lock in an exchange rate and eliminate the uncertainty of currency fluctuations affecting their revenue or costs.

Understanding order types is essential for executing precise forex trades. The most common order types are:

• Market Order: Executes instantly at the current market price — ideal for entering or exiting trades immediately.
• Limit Order: Executes only when the price reaches a specified level — used to enter at a better price than the current market rate.
• Stop-Loss Order: Automatically closes your trade at a pre-set price to cap your maximum loss on a position.
• Take-Profit Order: Automatically closes your trade when the price reaches your target profit level.
• Trailing Stop: A dynamic stop-loss that moves with the market price, locking in profits as the trade moves in your favour.

Successful forex trading relies on two core analytical approaches:

• Technical Analysis: Studies historical price charts, patterns, candlestick formations, support/resistance levels, and indicators (RSI, MACD, Bollinger Bands, Moving Averages) to forecast future price movements and identify optimal trade entry and exit points.
• Fundamental Analysis: Evaluates macroeconomic factors that drive currency values — including central bank interest rate decisions (RBI, Fed, ECB), inflation data (CPI), employment reports (NFP), GDP growth, and geopolitical events. A strong economy typically strengthens its currency, while weak economic data tends to weaken it.

Most professional traders use a combination of both approaches to make well-informed, high-probability trading decisions.
